The quartered field and red bar are taken from the arms of the Catholic Student Mission Crusade (CSMC) of which the bishop was a member. The plough is taken from the arm of the [[Archdiocese of Cincinnati]], where the bishop worked for 18 years. In addition the plough refers to the last name of the bishop, Thill for tiling the soil. | |||
