The third quarter shows a Xhosa Warrior, which represents the Eastern Cape. This figure appears on the seal of the proposed Eastern Cape Colony. Although the division of the Cape Colony into East and West did not occur, a seal was prepared and is on view in the Cuyler Manor Museum. The last quarter shows the Anchor, representing the [[Cape Colony]].
The Xhosa warrior is also a reference to the Frontier Wars, in which the amaXhosa invaded the Cape. Uitenhage was attacked several times during these wars, and the school cadet corps might have played a role in defending the town.

The last quarter shows the Anchor, representing the [[Cape Colony]].
