===Origin/meaning===

====Origin/meaning====
The arms of the city (German name Raudten) show the local patron saint, St. Catherine. On the local seals from the 15th-17th century the saint only appears as a bust, ever since as a whole standing figure, holding a wheel. The colours of the clothes and the wheel, as well as the position of the saint have varied widely, but the basic composition remained the same. This is indicated by the image of Hupp below (of which also a variant with a black wheel exists).
