===Origin/meaning===
The arms | The F in the first and fourth quarters is derived from the name of [[Frýdek]] while the gold eagle on blue is the Piast eagle of [[Upper Silesia]]. The oldest depiction of the [[Frýdek]] arms can be found on a monument in Komenského Sady. It's unclear whether the eagle is a Silesian eagle (black eagle with a silver crescent on its chest on a gold field) or a Piast/Upper Silesian eagle, however, the Upper Silesian version became the accepted version.
The crossed branches in the second and third quarters, representing [[Místek]], come from the arms of the Ronovci family, holders of the Místek estates in the 14th century.
The arms were designed by Vilém Kocich and registered on February 12, 1992. They contain the quartered historical arms of the Silesian town of [[Frýdek]] and the Moravian [[Místek]], combined into a single town in 1943 during the German occupation.
[[Literature]] : | In 1965, the city administration created the first arms for the combined cities. The arms contained a blue and white shield divided per fess with the [[Frýdek]] Piast/Upper Silesian eagle on the left and the crossed branches of [[Místek]] on the right. The branches were depicted as gold. Overall was a red pile, voided sable, terminated in an mullet (star). This depiction was strongly affected by the communist regime and broke the rule of tincture in the right half. A competition to replace these arms was declared in 1990.
