-====Origin/meaning====
-The arms were adopted in 1981.
-The lion is derived from the arms of the Vögte von Weida, who had large possessions in the area for many centuries. The lower half shows a spindle which symbolises the Schnallensturm (a revolt the textile workers in 1841 against introduction of new power-looms). The miner's tools symbolise the importance of mining in the area.
-Until the 17<sup>th</sup> century the local seals show an empty lower half of the shield. Later the seals showed some wall-like structure, which in the 19<sup>th</sup> century developed into a chequered shield.
