The arms were officially granted in 1930.

The arms are those of the Lords of Gültlingen. Lords of Berneck from the middle of the 14th century. The three eagles already appear on the seal of the village from 1561, but with the large eagle above the two smaller ones. Hupp also showed the eagles wrongly, as he based his image on the old seal (see below). The family always used the large eagle below.
Berneck received city rights in the late 14th century. The oldest known seal dates from the 15th century and already shows the three eagles, derived from the arms of the Lords of Gültlingen, lords of Berneck from the middle of the 14th century. To distinguish the arms of the city from the arms of the family the large eagle was shown in the chief of the shield. This composition remained unchanged until 1930, when the large eagle was placed below the other two eagles. The colours are also identical to the arms of the Lords of Gültlingen.
