Operational training unit, Oct-Nov 1942; replacement training unit, Dec 1942-May 1943 and Nov 1943-Apr 1944. Theater and overseas aerial refueling, beginning 1958, including support of operations in Southeast Asia, 1965-1973; airborne command post mission, 1965-1970. Worldwide aerial refueling, 1983- and airborne command post mission, 1984-1991; supported operations in Grenada, 23-24 Oct 1983; Panama, 18-21 Dec 1989; Southwest Asia, Aug 1990-Mar 1991; and Operation DENY FLIGHT in Bosnia, Jan-Feb 1995 and Aug 1996. Provided personnel and aircraft for refueling aircraft enforcing no-fly zones over Iraq (Operations PROVIDE COMFORT, NORTHERN WATCH, and SOUTHERN WATCH) in 1996. In 1997 and 1998, unit resources refueled airplanes flying continuing missions along the border of Iraq in Southwest Asia, including PHOENIX SCORPION I, II, and III, DESERT THUNDER, and DESERT FOX. In 1998 and 1999, the squadron also supported operations over the former Yugoslavia, including NOBLE ANVIL, DELIBERATE FORGE, and ALLIED FORCE. It refueled aircraft involved in antidrug operations over the Caribbean Sea during Operation CONSTANT VIGIL in 1998. After the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, DC, on 11 Sep 2001, the squadron supported Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM in Afghanistan and Iraq, the transportation of Taliban and Al Qaeda detainees to Guantanamo in Cuba, and counter-drug operations in South America. | |||
