Stockstadt developed on the spot of a Roman village and fortress on the border of the Roman Empire, The fortress was excavated since 1855 and many important objects have been found. To symbolise the fortress a Roman helmet was placed in the arms. The wavy bar symbolises the Main river, whereas the colours are those of Bayern.

The Roman helmet in the arms symbolises that the town is situated on the position of an old Roman castellum (fortress). The wavy bar symbolises the Main river. The colours are those of Bayern, to which the area belongs since 1815.
