The arms were officially adopted in 1899.

Zienken became a separate municipality in 1827 and during the 19th century the council used a seal with the arms of the [[State of Baden]] (to which it belonged), with a laurel wreath.

When the State Archives at the end of the 19th century designed arms for the municipalities in Baden, the use of the Baden arms was seen as inappropriate. As no other historical village signs were known, new arms had to be designed.

The village chose the image of a ram and a wreath of wheat-ears. Both sheep-herding on the common grasslands along the Rhine and agriculture where the main sources of income. The State Archives then changed the ram to only a head and the arms were adopted by the council in the summer of 1899. The colours were based on the colours of sheep and wheat. The blue was chosen arbitrarily.
