The oldest known seals of Spalt date from 1337-1669 and show already a church. The church is most likely the local St. Emmeram church. In the first half of the 16th century a wolf appears next to the tree in front of the church. The wolf is derived from a local story in which a wolf was caught in a crack (Spalt) of a tree near the city. The colours were never formally described until 1965 and many differently coloured images exist. | |||
