These arms are derived from the oldest seal of the village, dating from 1783. The seal showed a bishop rising from the clouds and holding a bunch of grapes. When the village became part of Nassau in 1803 the seal simply showed the name. In 1924 the old seal was restored. The identity of the bishop is not clear; the grapes indicate the importance of viticulture for the area.
