The arms show St. Mary and Christ under a Gothic gate. Saint Mary is the local patron saint and the composition already appeared on the oldest known seal of the city, known since the 14<sup>th</sup> century. All later seals showed the same composition. The use as arms dates from the 18<sup>th</sup> century.
