===Origin/meaning=== | |||
Waldenburg became the capital of the Princes of Hohenlohe in 1253 and received city rights in 1330. The oldest seal dates from the 16th century and already shows the present composition. The upper half shows a canting forest (Wald), the lower shows a leopard derived from the arms of the Hohenlohe dynasty. In the 19th century two variations were used, one with an additional letter L, and one with the lion facing left instead of right. | Waldenburg became the capital of the Princes of Hohenlohe in 1253 and received city rights in 1330.
