The arms are canting for Altenbaumburg (old-tree castle). In 1320 Altenbaumburg received city rights, but the city never really developed and the city rights got lost in the 16th century. The above arms also appear in a 16th century seal. The small river is the Alsenz river that runs through the town. The colours are not historically known and are granted on September 29, 1972.
