The arms first appear on the 16<sup>th</sup> century seal of the town and show in the second and third quarter the quartered shield of the Hohenzollern dynasty, in the 14<sup>th</sup> century Markgraves of Nürnberg. The grapes indicate the importance of the viticulture for the town and the neighbouring area. The arms thus have not changed since, even though different images exist, such as golden fields and with the grapes in the second and third quarter.
