Wildeshausen became a city in the early 13<sup>th</sup> century and the oldest seal dates from the same time. As both towers of the church were destroyed in 1214 and 1219, and the city became a possession of the city of Bremen in 1270, a new seal was used in the 14<sup>th</sup> century.
