The arms are a combination of the cross of the State of [[Speyer]] and the symbol of St. Lawrence, the local patron saint. Elchesheim was first mentioned in 1102 in a gift to the Bishop of Speyer. It belonged to Speyer until the 14<sup>th</sup> century, when it became part of Baden.
