The oldest known seal of the village dates from 1495 and already shows a shield with the hook. Similar seals are known from 1521 and 1626. The meaning or the origin of the hook is not known. The arms were officially granted in January 1901 in the colours of [[Baden (State)|Baden]], as no historical colours were known.
