The arms were granted in 1541 to the Amt Stauf, Eysölden was the main town in the Amt. The right half shows the quartered arms of the Hohenzollern family, Markgraves of Nürnberg who ruled the area and who granted the arms. The lion is a small addition, and is derived from the oldest arms of the Markgraves of Nürnberg. The left half symbolises the Stauf castle, the main castle in the area at the time.
