Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on March 22, 2002 and before on March 21, 1993. The only difference is the crown and the name on the banner, due to the elevation of São Mamede de Infesta to the level of city.
The two crosses refer to the Santa Maria de Leça chamber of the Order of Malta, who owned in medeval times most of the area, including the present parish of São Mamede de Infesta. The staff and small kettle are symbols for pilgrims on the way to Santiago de Compostela, who passed the village.
At the base the sable elevation is a reference to Infesta, an archaic term that means hill or height. The wavy base of silver and azure refers to the river Leça that crosses the region.
