Origin/meaning

The town became a city in the 13th century. The oldest seals date from the early 14th century and already show a city with an ox (canting) in the gate. All great-seals show a city with the ox, smaller seal only show the ox. The oldest known arms also show only an ox. The present arms were granted in the last century and go back to the old seal.
