BETEKOM

Province : Vlaams-Brabant
Incorporated into: 1977 Begijnendijk

Wapen van Betekom

Official blazon

Van zilver met een leliebloem van sabel - het schild geplaatst vóór een Heilige Laurentius, rechtstaand, met nimbus, houdend een rooster in de rechterhand, alles van goud.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 16, 1967.

The arms show a black fleur-de-lys, which is taken from the arms of the city of Aarschot. Betekom was until 1793 part of the Rivieren estate, which was a possession of the city of Aarschot for many centuries. The fleur-de-lys was also used on the local seals known from the late 17th and the 18th century. The supporter is St. Lawrence, patron saint of the village.
