WOŁÓW

Province: Dolny Śląsk
County: Wołów

Arms of Wołów

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms are canting, Wol(ek) means bull in Polish. The oldest known seal of the city dates from 1473 and already shows a bull. All later seals and images show the bull, sometimes facing left, but mostly (as in the present arms) facing right. On some seals the shield is crowned, but this was abandoned in the 19th century.
