HANDZAME
Province : West-Vlaanderen
Incorporated into : 1977 Kortemark
Official blazon
- (1819) Van lazuur beladen met twee in elkander leggende regterhanden.
- (1843) Een blauw veld met twee regterhanden naer het leven, te zamen gevouwen en dwars geplaetst.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on December 15, 1819 and confirmed on November 20, 1843.
The arms are canting, derived from Handen-samen, or hands together. When the arms were designed is not clear. Handzame is mentioned on a map of the Vrije van Brugge district from the 16th century, but, unlike most other villages mentioned, no arms are shown for the village.
The arms in the Koffie Hag/Café Hag albums +/- 1930 |
