Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
PRENZLAUER BERG
State : Berlin
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1992.
The wind mill blades symbolise the fact that historically there were many (up to 8) windmills in the area. Similarly, the area was an agricultural district, which is symbolised by the hop fruit in the base of the arms and the grapes in the chief (beer brewing and viticulture respectively).
Prior to 1992 the district used the arms shown below:
These arms were adopted in 1987 and show in the first quarter the local water tower, built in 1872 and later a monument. The second quarter shows the arms of Berlin, to which the area belongs since 1920. The base shows the largest park in the district, the Ernst-Thälmann Park, inaugurated in 1986.
