Escudo de prata, roda dentada de vermelho entre dois ramos de oliveira de verde, frutados de negro, com os pés passados em aspa, em ponta; em chefe, uma cruz apontada de azul. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco, com a legenda a negro: “ ABRÃ - SANTARÉM “.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 4, 2001.

The wheel and the olive branches refer to industry and agriculture.

The cross refers to an old silver cross in the chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity, which was hidden under the roof of the chapel, to prevent it to be stolen by the invading forces of Napoleon.
