The green colour of the shield refers to the name of the village, Lorup is derived from Ladorpe, or village in the woods. The red-golden bar refers to the Corvey Abbey, ti which the village historically belonged; the arms of Corvey were divided gold and red. The plough and wheel refer to the agriculture and industry in the village.The wheel is based on the cogwheel of the first steamengine in the village, which is now a monument in the village.
