Origin/meaning

The arms show in the right half the arms of the former rulers in the area : the upper half shows the escarbuncle of the Counts of Kleve, the lower half the chequered bar of the Counts of the Mark. The left half shows the Rhein river and the arms of the Prussian Rhine Province.
