Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
BIELEFELD (BI)
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
Incorporated into : 1973 Gütersloh, Bielefeld-city
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on August 23, 1961.
The chevrons are taken from the former County of Ravensberg, to which the city and a large part of the district belonged since the 13th century. The flowers are flax flowers, as the linen industry has historically been of great importance. The wheel symbolises the many industries in the district, which are of great importance since the early 20th century.
