Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
DARMSTADT-DIEBURG (DS)
State : Hessen
Additions : 1976 Darmstadt, Dieburg
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on June 16, 1978.
The lion in the arms shows the lion of the counts of Katzenelnbogen, who ruled most of the district, and had one of their main estates and castles in the city of Darmstadt. The wheel is the wheel of the State of Mainz, as part of the district was part of this State. The stars represent the municipalities in the district.
