Origin/meaning
The city received city rights in the 13th century and the oldest seal of the city is known from the 14th century. The seal already shows a city gate, a typical symbol for a city at the time. The second seal shows also a gate, but with a knight, holding a sword. The knight probably indicates watchfulness. All later seals until the late 19th century show the same composition. The composition was granted as arms in the early 20th century.
