Origin/meaning

The thornbranch in the arms is a canting symbol (Dorn=thorn, Holz=wood), which appeared on the local seal in the early 20th century. Previously the seals in the 19th century showed the lion of Hessen and the letters D and H.

The arms were officially granted in 1939. Silver and red are the colours of the Counts of Hessen-Homburg, who founded the village in 1699.
