Wapen van Zulzeke

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 4, 1818 and confirmed on June 18, 1845.

The arms show either Ceres, goddess of agriculture, which then has the same origin as the arms of Nukerke, as both belonged to the Zulzeke barony; or Diana godess of hunting. The exact origin is not known.

In 1813 the mayor applied for the arms, but not providing colours. As usual in such cases, the Dutch Court of Nobility used only the national colours. This was not corrected after the Belgian Independence when the arams were confirmed in 1845.
