WEIRA
State : Thüringen
District (Kreis) : Saale-Orla Kreis
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on February 1, 1995.
The horse head is used as a symbol for longtime inhabitation of the area, as prehistoric horseshoes have been found in the area. The pine tree is derived from the seal of the village from 1764. It also symbolises the tree planted in the village in 1864 by Grandduchess Maria Paulowna. The tree still existed in 1997.
The crossed hammers are a symbol for the copper mining in the area. The cross symbolises the chapel of St. Anne in Krobitz. St. Anne is also the patron saint of miners.
