MOERE

Province : West-Vlaanderen
Incorporated into : 1977 Gistel

Wapen van Moere

Official blazon

Van keel met een keper van zilver.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 23, 1935.

The arms with a chevron are first mentioned on a map of the area around Brugge (Vrije van Brugge) from the 17th century. The chevron appears in a free-quarter of the arms mentioned for Moere. The rest of the arms showed a black field with a silver chief. These arms were already mentioned in the Gelre roll of arms from the late 14th century. The council applied in 1935 only for the free quarter, not the whole arms of the Lords of Moere.
