MOORSELE
Province : West-Vlaanderen
Incorporated into : 1977 Wevelgem
Official blazon
- (1822) Van zwart, beladen met een bijenkorf omgeven van vijf vliegende bijen en vergezeld van boven van twee weverspoelen geplaatst als een St. Andrieskruis, alles van goud.
- (1855) D'or à deux bandes de gueules.
- (1950) Gevierendeeld van goud en van sabel.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 12, 1822. New arms were granted on May 31, 1855 and again different arms on February 3, 1950.
The arms from 1822 show symbols of agriculture (shuttles, bees and beehive).
These arms had no historical significance.
In 1855 the arms were changed:
The arms were supposedly the arms of the Lords of Moorsele from the 13th century. However, the arms were those of the Lords of Moorslede, who had no historical ties to Moorsele.
This mistake was corrected in 1950 when the above arms were granted. These are the arms of Robert-Alexander van Lens van Oyghem, last Lord of Moorsele from 1792-1796.
