Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 17, 1997.

The cross refers to the Order of Santiago, which played a major role in the local history. The wheat-ears refer to the agricultural character of the parish. The base shows the Tagus river with a water mill. There used to be a tidal water mill in the parish, whci was a rather unique type of mill.
