Origin/meaning

The origin of the arms in not known. The arms first appear on a seal from the 15th or 16th century. All later seals also show the same arms. Older seals show a composition of a wolf in front of a tree, and with a crown flying over its head. These are the arms of the Lords of Borcke, to whom the city belonged.
