Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
ERLANGEN (ER)
State : Bayern
Incorporated into : 1973 Erlangen-Höchstadt
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on March 6, 1964.
The district is a combination of two main historical territories. A major part of the district was ruled by the Markgraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth and the border in the arms is taken form the arms of the viscounts.
The colours are taken from the arms of the city of Nürnberg, who ruled the other part of the district. The wheel symbolises the many water mills in the Regnitz river in the district.
