Province: Moravskoslezský Kraj
District (Okres) : Frýdek-Místek

Arms of Třinec
Official blazon
Czech
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1969.

Třinec was first mentioned in 1444 when it was only a village. In 1779 it was acquired by the Dukes of Teschen. In 1839 the Iron-Works were founded and in 1931 Třinec was raised to the status of a borough. The new borough did not apply for arms, but continued the use of the old seal featuring a handshake in front of a tree.

In 1968 council wanted arms and the above arms were approved by the plenary session of the Town Council on 14 May 1969. They have not (yet) been entered in the Czech Heraldry Register. The arms show the eagle of the former dukes of Teschen bearing on its breast a shield with the trade mark of the Třinec Iron-Works which initiated and financed the adoption of the arms. It should be noted that these hammers are of different shapes !
