Origin/meaning
The old name of the town, Schippenbeil, makes the arms partly canting as Schiff is ship. The composition already appeared on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from the 14th century.
All later seals and images show the same composition. The size and shape of both the boat and the castle have changed considerably during the centuries.
