Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 15, 1949.

These are the complete arms of François Franeau de Hyon, Count of Gommegnies. The family Franeau de Gommegnies ruled the village from 1577-1794. The arms were based on an 18th century seal found in the archives in Mons. The unicorn is the original symbol used by the family.

Literature: Servais, 1955
