Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 14, 1951.

The village of Broechem was part of the Duchy of Brabant and until 1559 ruled by the Lords of Berthout as vassals. Until 1780 the village belonged to several families, from 1780-1793 to the Fraula family.
The seals of the village always showed the arms of the local rulers, i.e. in the 13th century the three pales of the Berthout family, in the 16th and 17th centuries the arms of the Van der Rijt family, and in the 18th century the arms of the Le Roy, Colen and Fraula families. The latter arms were finally used as municipal arms, and officially granted in 1951.

Literature: Servais, 1955
