Template:Latvia ZILUPE TOWN
Region : Latgale
Municipality : Zilupe
Official blazon
Skaldīts ar zeltu un sarkanu, pāļa veidā dubultatslēga - no viena uz otru.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1938.
Only a small village Riucani or Rucani was there before 1900, called Rosenau in German, later Rosenhof. But workers of the Moscow-Ventspils railway established a town here. In 1931 city rights were granted, and the city was renamed to Zilupe, according to the name of the local river.
In 1938 the arms were granted: a key, symbolizing that Zilupe is the city at the state border.
