ILAWA
Province: Warmia i Mazury
County: Iława
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms show St. Mary and Christ under a Gothic gate. Saint Mary is the local patron saint and the composition already appeared on the oldest known seal of the city, known since the 14th century. All later seals showed the same composition. The use as arms dates from the 18th century. The basic composition did not change, but the colours have changed widely during the centuries, as can be seen from the image below dating from the late 19th century.
