Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
REGENSBURG (R)
State : Bayern
Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on September 17, 1963 and confirmed on September 26, 1972.
The chief shows the diamonds of Bayern as several estates were for centuries possessions of the Dukes of Bayern. The bend in the lower right half is derived from the arms of the Regensburg Abbey, which also held several estates. The cross symbolises the Benedictine Abbey of Prüfening the largest of the many former monasteries in the district.
