The arms show the two volcanoes Wilis and Lawu. The Madiun river is shown as a wavy bar. The green part symbolises the green fields in and near the city. The motto<em> Montes prosperitatem vident</em> (The mountains are witness to my prosperity) and the supporters were not taken in the new arms of the city.
