Origin/meaning

The arms of the city (German name Goldberg) shows in a golden (Gold) field an small mountain (Berg) in the base and the eagle of Silezia.

The oldest seal of the city dates from the 13th century and shows the mountain, but with a few flowers or trees, and no eagle. The above composition appeared for the first time in the late 14th or early 15th century. The composition remained the same during the centuries, however, the eagle has changed often from facing left to right.

During the 19th century until 1945, the eagle was shown as a complete black eagle, instead of the Silezian eagle. Below the image as shown in the early 20th century. The present Polish city has restored the old eagle, as shown above.
