Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on July 30, 1993.
The oranges and orange tree refer to the old name of the village as the village was originally called Orangeira, which literally means "orange orchard". Still oranges are a common tree in Galveias, especially in the "Jardim de Sao Pedro", the local gardens.
The rooster refers to the present name, which, according to legend is derived from the following occasion:
In the village, there were many Galos, roosters, and of two families who lived next door to each other, one owned roosters, the other hens. The hen owner, finding her hens were being disturbed by the roosters, asked the rooster owner to please move his roosters, as "o galo ve as" ! (it means the roosters see them). From this the name Galveias was derived.
