PUUMALA

Region : Etelä-Savo
Former province : 1997-2009 Itä-Suomi (until 1997 Mikkeli)

Puumala Kuntavaakuna / Kommunvapen

Official blazon

Mustassa kilvessä kolme kilventyvestä kohoavaa hopeista sudenhammasta, joissa mustat punaliekkiset kranaatit.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 18, 1963.

Puumala became a border village in 1743 and the narrow passages on the lake made it of strategic importance and resulted in many border disputes and fights. This is symbolised by the arms.
